from 10 a.m. to noon, you'll get to choose one of two simultaneous classes. Choose either:
  • Building the Union in a Right-to-Work Environment, with Chris Brooks of Labor Notes staff, who has years of experience as a union organizer in right-to-work Tennessee.

OR

  • Assembling Your Dream Team (Finding Leaders and Mapping Your Workplace), with Jane Slaughter, former editor of Labor Notes.

Please arrive at 9:30 for registration and to browse our books and t-shirts. Classes will start promptly at 10 a.m.

State Hall is at 5143 Cass  Ave. (corner of Putnam), one block north of Warren. It's very easy to find, a red-and-white-ish flat-roofed building right across from the Detroit Public Library. Rooms 218-219 are on the second floor. Take the stairs near either entrance. There is an elevator.

You can park in Wayne State's Parking Structure #6, on Putnam, just east of Cass. It's expensive: probably $9 for the time you'll be in the classes. Daily maximum is $10 (which would cover your time at lunch afterward as well). Cash or credit cards accepted.

You can also park on the street using the meters/kiosks (coins or credit card), for $1 an hour, but the maximum allowed is two hours—and they do ticket aggressively. You can extend the two-hour maximum remotely via cellphone if you pay using the city's ParkMobile app.

Afterwards, feel free to join the group for lunch Sweet Lorraine's Mac n' Brewz, a short block away.
