Ferndale Library Workers Solidarity Event

YUGE news out of Ferndale! Workers at the Ferndale Area District Library just went public with their campaign to win recognition of their union through the Newspaper Guild of Detroit! One of the workers is a Detroit DSA member who learned critical skills during our chapter’s Organizing 101 classes. When the campaign was ready to go public and needed community support, she knew she could count on Detroit DSA members to show up in solidarity – and that’s where YOU come in!

On December 15th, the Board will vote on whether to recognize the union, and we need them to know that the workers and their supporters in Ferndale and beyond will NOT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER. The meeting will have public comment during which we will want supporters speaking! Sign up here if you can attend, and we’ll help you prepare to speak.

Here are four other ways that you can support these workers between now and December 15th. (You don’t need to live in Ferndale to do any of these steps but if you do live there your support counts extra!)

1) Stop by the Ferndale Area District Library and go to any desk. Ask to submit a positive patron feedback report. Leave your name and say how excited you are that we’re unionizing and that you support the union! Note if you’re a Ferndale resident and have a library card, if applicable (not required). Positive patron feedback reports get emailed to the entire staff, so this creates an important paper trail of community support. You can also file a positive patron report by phone at 248-546-2504, Ext. 692

2) Email the Ferndale Area District Library’s Director, Jenny Marr, at [email protected] to express support for the union.

3) Call the Ferndale Area District Library’s Director, Jenny Marr, at 248-546-2504 Ext. 691 to express support for the union.

4) Follow Ferndale Library Workers on Twitter and Instagram, and like and share their posts! Tag them in a post letting them know you’re a supporter and that you’ve taken any of the above actions. Take a fun selfie outside the library after going to submit a positive patron feedback report!

Will you come?
