The next meeting of the Detroit Jacobin Reading Group will take place on 3/28/17 from 6-8pm, in the Fine Arts Room on the third floor of the Detroit Public Library Main Branch. This month, they will be discussing the perceived conflict on the left between “class” politics and “identity” politics, and how we can surmount it and move forward. Please come prepared to discuss the following four readings:
Keeanga-Yamattha Taylor "How to Build a Mass Movement", Jacobin.
Maximillian Alvarez "Circulate Now, Mobilize Later", The Baffler.
Laurie Penny "No, identity politics is not to blame for the failures of the left", The New Statesman.
Thea N. Riofrancos and Daniel Denvir "The 'Identity Politics' is Splintering the Left. Here's How We Can Move Past It", In These Times.
